About the Doctor

Dr. Jim Randolph

For those of us who love animals, it's hard to get enough. Enough information, enough heartwarming stories, enough animals!

Two categories of animal lovers can get more: couch potatoes and the mentally nimble who can program their VCRs. There are more TV shows about animals than any one category, excepting sports and soap operas. If you plan your weekend right you can almost get animal TV nonstop.

I've assembled a television guide to animal shows that appear as serials for those who wish to tell their VCRs to watch for these over and over. While this list may not be comprehensive, it should be enough to keep you very busy.

Since channel numbers are reassigned differently on individual cable systems, I've used the original broadcast channel number which you must convert in some cases.

  • MON-FRI 1:30 PM NICKOLODEON FLIPPER (He seems so human, it's almost not an animal show!)
  • SATURDAY 9:30 AM FAMILY THAT'S MY DOG 10:30 AM DISCOVERY PET CONNECTION (This show originates from Canada, but shows that animal lovers are the same everywhere!)
  • THOSE INCREDIBLE ANIMALS 11:30 AM DISCOVERY
  • FLIPPER 11:30 AM NICKOLODEON (OK, Watch one and tape the other!)
  • CATS AND DOGS WITH DR. ANITA MIGDAY, one of my favorites, shows during some of the season at 12:30 PM on Saturdays. This is a New Orleans PBS station.)
